Audit Questions for Theoretical Completeness
Questions any complete theory of gravity should be able to answer
Purpose of This Page
This document operationalizes the Gravity Catalog.
Each constraint is transformed into direct audit questions that any proposed theory of gravity must answer in its own terms.
Failure to answer a question is not a refutation.
It is a declared boundary of explanatory scope.
What is not permitted is silent omission.
Audit 1: Directionality
Questions
- What physical condition establishes gravitational direction?
- Is this direction an ongoing state or a transient effect?
- How is directional consistency maintained across an extended region?
- Why does the direction not decohere over time?
Disallowed Responses
- “Direction emerges from coordinates”
- “Direction is frame-dependent”
- “Direction is not fundamental”
Direction is observed.
Non-fundamentality is not an explanation.
Audit 2: Resistance
Questions
- Why does opposing gravity require effort?
- What interaction produces resistance under static conditions?
- How is load transmitted through matter under gravity?
- Why does resistance scale with mass and configuration?
Disallowed Responses
- “Resistance is non-gravitational”
- “Only free-fall is gravitational”
- “Resistance is a support effect”
If gravity is absent during resistance, gravity is absent during most lived experience.
Audit 3: Equilibrium
Questions
- What is gravity doing when nothing moves?
- Why does equilibrium under gravity differ from equilibrium without gravity?
- What interaction persists in static conditions?
- Why is equilibrium not energetically neutral?
Disallowed Responses
- “Nothing is happening”
- “Equilibrium is inertial”
- “Gravity only acts during acceleration”
Persistence is observable.
Inaction is not.
Audit 4: Maintenance Cost
Questions
- Why does holding position require energy?
- Where does that energy go?
- What gravitational interaction necessitates continuous expenditure?
- Why does fatigue accumulate under constant conditions?
Disallowed Responses
- “Energy loss is biological”
- “Fatigue is material-specific”
- “This is outside gravity’s scope”
Gravity sets the condition.
Cost follows from gravity.
Audit 5: Structural Ordering
Questions
- Why does gravity produce irreversible ordering?
- Why does time under gravity matter?
- What interaction causes gradual reconfiguration?
- Why does structure record gravitational history?
Disallowed Responses
- “This is just materials science”
- “Gravity only initiates motion”
- “Long-term effects are emergent”
Emergence without mechanism is labeling, not explanation.
Audit 6: Structure Sensitivity
Questions
- Why do different structures respond differently under identical gravity?
- How does geometry affect gravitational interaction?
- Can gravity couple to internal organization?
- If universality holds, where does structure enter?
Disallowed Responses
- “All masses fall the same”
- “Structure is irrelevant”
- “Differences are non-gravitational”
Universality of free fall does not negate structure-sensitive interaction.
Audit 7: Global Coherence
Questions
- How do local gravitational explanations compose globally?
- Is the explanation consistent across a spherical body?
- Can all local descriptions be simultaneously true?
- Does the explanation scale without contradiction?
Disallowed Responses
- “This is only a local explanation”
- “Global composition is not required”
- “The analogy breaks down globally”
Reality does not permit selective coherence.
Audit 8: Literal Meaning
Questions
- Are the theory’s explanatory statements literally true?
- If taken globally, do they imply contradictions?
- Are metaphors substituting for mechanism?
- Who bears responsibility for ambiguity—the theory or the listener?
Disallowed Responses
- “You’re taking it too literally”
- “This is just a teaching tool”
- “The math is what matters”
If statements cannot be taken literally, they are not explanations.
Audit 9: Scale Continuity
Questions
- What is the causal throughline from posture to orbit?
- Does the explanation change ontologically across scales?
- If so, why?
- If not, how is continuity maintained?
Disallowed Responses
- “Different regimes require different explanations”
- “This only applies at large scales”
- “Local effects are approximations”
Approximation is not exemption.
Audit 10: Assumptive Load
Questions
- What assumptions are required to explain local gravity?
- Which phenomena are direct versus inferred?
- Why are distant inferences prioritized over local facts?
- Could the theory stand if only local data were available?
Disallowed Responses
- “Cosmological data is more fundamental”
- “Local data is already explained”
- “Inference is unavoidable”
Inference is acceptable.
Evasion is not.
Closing Statement
These questions do not demand agreement.
They demand accountability.
A theory that answers them coherently earns the right to generalize.
A theory that cannot must acknowledge its limits.
No hostility is implied.
Only clarity.
